Not quite sure where to begin? The following steps will help you get on the path to success:
Step 1 – Identify your SOE Project Lead
The SOE Project Lead will serve as the liaison between your Affiliate and NAMI Texas. This individual should be someone in a leadership position who is deeply involved with Affiliate operations. Responsibilities of the SOE Project Lead may include:
- Assembling an Affiliate team to work toward satisfying the Standards of Excellence
- Organizing team phone calls and meetings
- Keeping Affiliate leaders apprised of updates
- Delegating related tasks appropriately
- Tracking your Affiliate’s progress throughout the process
- Interfacing with your Affiliate’s NAMI Profile Center account
- Overseeing the collection, creation, updating and uploading of all required SOE documentation
Once you have named an SOE Project Lead, please inform NAMI Texas of your selection.
Step 2 – Determine which operational model your Affiliate will pursue
Learn about your operating model options.
Step 3 – Familiarize your Affiliate leaders with the Standards of Excellence materials
In particular, get to know the different sections of the NAMI Texas SOE website, which contains resources to guide your Affiliate through the process.
Step 4 – Get in contact with NAMI Texas to notify us when you are ready to begin
We can discuss strategies with you, explain the process, answer your questions, and connect you to the right resources. Once we know you are actively working on SOE, we will also check your Profile Center account activity on a regular basis.
Step 5 – Pass and submit a Board Resolution indicating your Affiliate’s intent to proceed with the Standards of Excellence requirements

Step 6 – Use the Document Checklist as a guide as you collect and update information
Find out which documents are required for both Model A and Model B Affiliates.
Step 7 – Use Affiliate templates and sample documents as references for some of the SOE requirements
Access the templates and sample documents.
Step 8 – Learn how to use your NAMI Profile Center account
Read the Profile Center Affiliate manual, watch a how-to instructional video, and access the log-in site.
Step 9 – Upload the relevant documents to your NAMI Profile Center account.
Review subsequent progress reports, making modifications to the documents and re-uploading as appropriate.
Step 10 – When your Affiliate is endorsed by NAMI Texas, upload the Letter of Endorsement onto your Profile Center account
Once endorsed, you will move up to the national level of the Standards of Excellence process with the goal of ultimately being offered re-affiliation by NAMI.
