Capitol Day 2017 a Great Success!

Mental health advocates from across the state gathered in Austin on February 8 to take the message of “let’s move on mental health” to their legislators.
Over 350 people gathered at the Schmidt-Jones Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church for a welcome from Rep. Gene Wu, followed by an issue briefing and advocacy training. Participants donned green headbands with the let’s move on mental health slogan on them as they walked over to the Capitol for a rally on the steps, followed by meetings with their legislators. Following the meetings, the advocates gathered back at the Schmidt-Jones Center to report on the many successful meetings they had.

“AUSTIN (KXAN) – Lawmakers this Legislative Session are proposing to spend $1 billion to fix state hospitals in order to treat more people suffering from mental illness.”
